Soft Tissue Release - Wave Tool
Prior to the Outdoor Retailer Show in Denver a few weeks back, we took part in an “Adventure camp” media event put on by Eric “Hende” Henderson and his new shop, Meteorite PR. As well as showcasing some of the bigger, best-known brands (like Dynafit), Hende also share some smaller—and cool—brands. One of these was the Wave Tool. It looks like a weird “flubberish” thing until you realize its intended usage. To explain it a little better, it’s used in Instrumental Assisted Soft tissue Mobilization (or IASTM) to break apart adhesions and stimulate the body’s natural healing process. The tool’s “special sauce” is the variety of shapes, angles and edges available for different body parts (see first image below).
The company’s founder, Laura Schmonsees, is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and an AMGA cert’ed guide. In other words, if anybody knows how to build a healing tool for backcountry skiers, it’d be Laura. We’ll have a couple of the tools up at Whitewater’s Cold Smoke Fest this weekend. Come by the Backcountry Skiing Canada booth and take a look. You may even win a Wave Tool!
