Rocky Talkie Proudly Distributes $75K to Winners of 2024 Search and Rescue Awards
Public is encouraged to enter a contest to award an additional$10K to SAR teams of their choice
DENVER, CO (July 16, 2024) – Rocky Talkie, in partnership with the American Alpine Club, is proud to announce the winners of the 2024 Search and Rescue Awards. This year’s awards encompassed two separate components – five, $10K needs based grants and one $25K Featured Rescue of the Year award for the most inspiring rescue of 2024. Needs based grants were awarded to Baker County Search and Rescue, OR, Calaveras County Search and Rescue, CA, Powell County Search and Rescue, KY, San Gorgonio Search and Rescue, CA, and Spokane Mountain Rescue, WA. The Featured Rescue of the Year award was bestowed upon Black Canyon of the Gunnison Search and Rescue, CO. Rocky Talkie now invites the public to enter a giveaway for an additional $5K in funding for two additional volunteer Search and Rescue teams.

The 2024 Search and Rescue Awards were once again determined in collaboration with the American Alpine Club. Winning teams were chosen based on funding impact or their execution of a featured rescue mission. To learn how award winners will apply their grants and to view Black Canyon of the Gunnison Search and Rescue Team’s winning rescue film, produced by renowned climber and filmmaker Jon Glassberg, please visit: https://rockytalkie.com/sar-award

Since 2020, Rocky Talkie has earmarked $2 from every radio sold to help supplement the costs of volunteer Search and Rescue teams. Via its annual Search and Rescue Awards, Rocky Talkie has donated $146K in funding across 19 volunteer organizations.

“We’re honored to continue our annual pledge to support volunteer Search & Rescue teams. Like good communication, these volunteer teams save lives and provide critical peace of mind in the backcountry,” commented Rocky Talkie Co-Founder and CEO, Bryce Jones. “This year was our biggest donation cycle yet and we look forward to further increasing our support for these underfunded teams for years to come,” Jones continued.

In speaking to its collaboration with Rocky Talkie, American Alpine Club Executive Director, Ben Gabriel, noted, “We’re thrilled to partner with Rocky Talkie again to deliver the Rocky Talkie Search and Rescue Awards. This partnership provides much-needed resources for search and rescue groups nationwide and helps to ensure climbers have the support they need when things don’t go as planned.”

From July 16th until August 2nd, the public can enter the “A Win for You + A Win for Your Community,” prize contest. Two lucky winners will receive a grand prize of $5K in funding to be donated to their local volunteer  Search and Rescue team along with safety gear, a 1-year membership to the American Alpine Club, a Wilderness First Responder certification course from Desert Mountain Medicine, Recon Pro First Aid Pack from MyMedic, and a 1-year Elite membership from onX Backcountry.
