Dynafit Alpine Running Shoes
Dynafit is well known for their innovative ski touring gear but they also make a whole slew of summer trail running products as well. Helly Hansen LIFA Merino Lightweight Crew LS
Helly Hansen redefined the base layer with their LIFA fabric and now they’ve made it even better with their LIFA Merino Lightweight Crew Long Sleeve. Black Diamond is pushing the sustainability of their apparel this spring with the release of their new Highline Stretch Shell which is a premium 3-layer mountain/alpine shell. It is of course waterproof and breathable thanks to the BD.dry fabric but the real story is in the use of a PFC-free water-repellent finish. Made by Green Theme International (GTT), this revolutionary breathable water protection technology is an environmentally friendly solution that’s superior in performance to other DWR’s. Arc’teryx ATOM SL Anorak
Anoraks are making a comeback these days and Arc’teryx is getting in on the action with their new for Spring 2021 ATOM SL Anorak. This pull over the head style of jacket has a longer front zip for easy on/off and the ability to quickly vent excess heat during high-output activities. The Atom SL has been designed as a minimalist mid-layer for mild Spring and Fall conditions where you need a little protection from the wind and cold. You’ll find a light layer of synthetic Coreloft insulation strategically placed in the torso and back with fleece side panels for an additional stretch under the arms. The Tyono 20 fabric provides a good amount of breathability while still buffeting the wind and a DWR finish on the fabric will repel moisture. To increase weather protection there is an uninsulated hood and when not needed the ATOM SL Anorack stores away into its own chest pocket. In our testing the Coreloft insulation was just enough but not too much and this proved to be a very efficient, light, and compressible layer for those uncertain weather days in spring, fall and early summer.

GORE-TEX PRO
Since 1958, Gore has created fabrics and technologies to solve problems in the most demanding environments, from outer space to the world’s highest peaks to the inner workings of the human body. In 2007 Gore launched their innovative GORE-TEX PRO technology and new for this year they have added three new variations of this waterproof breathable fabric technology which will allow manufacturers to more effectively build apparel targeting different types of performance for different end uses.
From day one GORE-TEX PRO has always been very rugged and durable, providing long-lasting protection in the most extreme conditions while still being totally windproof. This means that the fabric stops all wind, so you stay warmer while at the same time providing the highest level of breathability to ensure you overheat less during intense activity, thus staying warmer when you stop to rest. Of course GORE-TEX PRO comes with the “Guaranteed to Keep You Dry” promise that Gore-Tex is famous for.

Kora Neema Short Sleeve Crew
Kora is known for its use of Yak Wool in the garments it creates and new for Spring 2021 they have launched a new line of lightweight technical base layers that use a blend of YakWool, Merino Wool and Coolmax Polyester. This new Neema Collection uses a lighter-weight fabric (160gsm) that takes Yak Wool to a new level when it comes to temperature regulation. The combination of Merino Wool further helps increase odour resistance while the Coolmax Polyester helps keep you dry by aiding with moisture transportation and evaporation. The Neema Short Sleeve Crew is designed to be worn against the skin and the rib knit construction has just the right amount of stretch to move with the body during active pursuits. In winter the Neema layers can be worn as a base layer since they also come in a Long Sleeve version as well. Kodiak is a Canadian company that has been making boots and shoes since 1910 and in 2010 they outfitted the Canadian Olympic team athletes. In 2017 they became part of the VF Corporation which runs such iconic outdoor companies as The North Face, Smartwool, Vans and Timberland. Mammut Sapuen SO Hooded Jacket
Mammut’s new for spring 2021 Sapuen SO Hooded Jacket is more than your average softshell since it has a waterproof and breathability rating of 10k. This means that in a water column test it has a hydrostatic head of 10,000 mm while still having a vapour permeability rating of 10,000 g/m2/24h. In laymen's terms, this means it is more waterproof than most soft shells that claim to be simply water-resistant and yet it’s still breathable! This makes the Sapuen SO Hooded Jacket ideal for active pursuits in colder weather such as ski touring, hiking, biking and trail running since sweat can easily be transported to the outside of the fabric where it can evaporate.
The outer fabric is very robust and durable while the back of the Sapuen SO has wool blended into the fabric for more comfort and warmth. The entire jacket has a serious amount of 4-way stretch for maximum freedom of movement and features a chest pocket as well as two side pockets, and an adjustable hood. Rab Downpour Eco Jacket
Rab’s new Downpour Eco Jacket is waterproof, breathable and packable but that’s not what makes it so special. Because it uses a recycled 2.5-layer Pertex Revolve fabric with a fluorocarbon-free DWR treatment it is a very eco-conscious jacket. In fact, it is Rab’s first-ever mono-polymer waterproof jacket and by using a polyester outer and membrane it is not only 100% recycled but it also has the future potential to be fully recycled at the end of its life cycle. Of course, it has a waterproof rating of 20,000 HH with an MVTR breathability rating of 20,000g. Some of the notable features include a pair of zipped handwarmer pockets, an integrated stuff sack for easy carry, adjustable hem and cuffs, plus a two-way adjustable hood with polymer peak. 5.11 Tactical Pants
5.11 Tactical (not to be confused with Five Ten Shoes) got its start in the public safety and first responder community in 1992 when the FBI training academy started using its original 5.11 pant. They expanded from there to create a more extensive line of law enforcement apparel in 2003. They’ve now expanded into the outdoor and fitness markets with products such as the 5.11 Ridge Pants and 5.11 Decoy Pants that we’ll look at closer here.
