Chances of dying
Here's an interesting info graphic about your chances of dying. This isn't meant to scare you into hibernating in your bed all weekend (although that can also be fun occasionally) but to show you that life isn't really all that dangerous after all.
It’s summed up best by the closing line: “Regardless of all these risks, your probability of dying during a given year doubles every 8 years”.
That is a sobering fact, so get out there and enjoy life.
Yeah, thanks for posting. I posted this to FB yesterday. Funny enough, I'd just looked into life insurance last week. "Do you do any of the following activities?" the agent said.
-Civilian Pilot
-Vehicle Racing
-SCUBA
-Sky Diving
-Mountain Climbing
"Hmmm... Yeah, I do some mountain climbing." I replied.
Well, as soon as the agent clicked that button, another page opened. Each time I answered a question "yes," another list of questions opened. "What grade do you climb?" (complete with YDS grade levels in a pull-down window) It was comical! 
We eventually came to a field that was to be filled out with all of the times I'd gone into the mountains in the last 3 years, as well as all of my mountain plans over the next 12 months. I told the agent that it would take several hours to fill that out. So, he called the underwriter.
On the phone with the underwriter, the agent was appearently answering questions on my behalf, "Yeah, he gets out pretty often....more than 6 times a year?" "Do you go more than six times a year?" he asks me in a whispered tone. "You mean 6 expeditions a year?"
"Errr, ummm, what do you mean by 6 times a year?" my agent asks the underwriter. "Did he tie in more than 6 times?"
"The Denali ski ascent/descent was 28 days long. I tied into a rope at least half of those days." I stated.
"Oh, ok. 1500? Ok, thanks. Goodbye." My agent hangs up with the underwriter.
Then, my agent informs me that since I go into the mountains and tie into a rope more than 6 times per year, there's a yearly premium of $1500 on top of the standard yearly rate.
It'd be a lot cheaper if I stayed home and played video games. But, that'd KILL ME!
Guess I'll keep playing in the mountains.
