I'll pass your note along to friends in the Rockies, where I used to live for many years.  The ice climbing is some of the best in the world so you won't have any problem there.  Not to rain on your parade, however, but january isn't typical for big lines and ski mountaineering in the Rockies.  The snowpack is usually still quite thin, glaciers can be poorly covered, sometimes many persistent weak layers and rare to have weather to get up high.  For the best ski mountaineering in the Rockies I would go in april or may.  Saying all that, sometimes you will get a big high pressure sitting over the area (read:  freakin cold!) and have good stability to get up high.

I understand the snowpack could potentially be an issue, and that January is probably on the early side, but this is my big time window (I could MAYBE push it right by three weeks, but I don't think that would yield a significant change, and my next big time slot is in June). 

I'll hope for a good weather window, or fall back on, like you said, some pretty awesome ice climbing.
