      Lodges, Lodges, Lodges

The Backcountry Skiing Canada team have been busy over the summer and fall months compiling information on every single lodge available in the Rocky Mountains, Interior Mountains and Coast Mountains. We have included private lodges, huts, Yurts, cabins and all the backcountry skiing Alpine Club of Canada Huts, over 49 in total!

Have a look over what is available and pick one out for your bucket list, they range from $10 a day for ski in cabins to $2500 a week for heli-in / heli-out and offer up some incredible backcountry skiing no matter what your budget.

If we missed one let us know and if you are planning to ski at one or already have then post away with some of your pics and experiences of your adventures.

      Love it!

Some of the hostels on HWY93 North are fantastic bases for ski touring. Mosquito Creek, and Rampart Creek, and Hilda Creek are wonderful.

Engadine Lodge in Kananaskis would be cool.

Some extravigant ones like Mount Assiniboine Lodge, Lake O'Hara Lodge, Skoki Lodge might also be good.

Sounds like you get around Jake (in a good way), lots of options all over the place.

Hey Jake, we may be planning a trip out to the Icefields parkway in the spring to ski out of some of those huts (time and conditions permitting), Hostelling Intertnational I believe? Have you stayed at most of them?

Of the ones I listed I've only stayed at Rampart Creek, Skoki, and O'Hara, but many outings take us through the properties at Mosquito Creek and Hilda Creek on the 93.

Similarly in Kananaksis a ton of tours seem to start near Engadine.

A past magazine article showing the terrain at Assiniboine has had me dreaming of going there for years but no luck yet. Maybe with some lottery winnings!

Hopefully things line up and your spring trip to the parkway is filled with great stability and tons of snow.

Pretty cool we live in a place with so many options.  I lived in Canmore for many years before moving to BC and have stayed at all the ACC huts and HI Hostels.  I agree with Jake, great deal and nice to get away from civilized life as no wifi or phones.  Stayed at Mosquito and Hilda, both basic but great.  Rampart has a great sauna.  Personally, I wouldn't fork over the dough for Assinaboine.  Mediocre touring, especially if you are coming from the Kootenays, Selkirks, Coast etc.  I am also not a big fan of Skoki for the skiing.  Tons of history, beautiful setting (and definitely worth seeing) but I would just ski in for afternoon tea.  More of a crosscountry ski destination.  There are some good tours behind Louise but (IMO) Skoki isn't really a good base for touring.  If you haven't been, I would HIGHLY recommend the classic Wapta traverse as well as the Bow-Yoho traverse.  Or, in spring, amazing ski mountaineering opportunities on the Columbia Icefields--doesn't get any better in terms of ski mountaineering.

Let me know if you have any questions about specific tours in the area.  If I had a choice, I would go to the Rockies in the spring (april/may).  Longer days, warmer and better stability.  I think the Rockies has the best ski mountaineering but mid-winter I would stay in the Selkirks/Monashees/Purcells/etc as MUCH better powder skiing.  Of course, that's just my opinion!
