Zincton Ski Resort: One Step Closer to Reality

Old or abandoned mining towns in the West Kootenays are a front for some pretty all-time backcountry skiing. Stolen moments in this delicious powder once belonged only to the local ski lords, who fiercely guarded the secrecy of their turf by resisting temptations to spill the weekend beans to some visiting ski bum at the bar and by taking care to tag social media photos at completely unrelated (and obviously misleading) locations. But as it happens with any juicy info,... at some point the word starts to get out.

Which brings us to the Zincton Lift Company. Until recently, the project was only an Expression of Interest (or EOI) made by Valhalla Pure Outfitters’ founder David Harley.  The idea was pitched to build a year- round resort on a parcel of land near the old mining town of Three Forks, BC., and it has recently been given the green light to continue to the next stage of planning: the submission of a formal proposal.

A subject of heated debate since the first mention of the idea, the Zincton Lift Company still has a long way to go before earning community support — especially as they have yet to address concerns voiced by First Nations and environmentalist groups in regards to land rights and the impact on grizzly habitat.
