Sled Mods for Backcountry Access
Wondering if anyone has much experience with using a sled to access their favorite areas? Some of the access roads we previously used are not longer being plowed so I am looking at purchasing a sled.
I am wondering what people have found to be best for carrying skis on the sled. I am looking to buy a long track machine so there should be space behind the seat for some sort of bracket system. Any suggestions?
Here is a good start...I did read somewhere that you can do a rack for $30 but I cant seem to find it. Good Luck
Just to update.
Purchased 2 pieces of 1.25" round wood dowel. One goes across the tunnel behind the seat and another one across the back gas rack. When you use tie downs across the skis and pack, nothing moves and the wood works great to protect the aluminum tunnel from the ski edges. As a bonus the wood then also does not mark up your ski edges. Total cost is <$20, and when they get worn out, just buy some new ones.
Gets us in and out of the 15km road into the Gorge very well.
