New Sierra Designs Gear from Winter Outdoor Retailer
Here's another update from last months Outdoor Retailer Show where we met with Sierra Designs to talk about a few innovative new products that are new for this year.
First up is the Backcountry Bed which has already won a few industry awards. Think of this one as a melding of your sleeping bad and your bed. There is a down top sheet that is loose and the bag itself has a very generous cut so you have room to move, just like in your bed. There is also a sleeping pad sleeve on the underside so the Backcountry Bed does stays put as you roll around.

In keeping with sleeping bags, Sierra Designs decided to innovate again but this time in a totally different direction. Rather than a bed concept Sierra Designs went with a mobile sleeping bad idea and presto, the Sierra Designs Mobil Mummy Sleeping Bag. Some would call this a silly idea while others will no doubt love it. The Mobile Mummy has arm holes up top and leg holes that allow your feet to protrude through the bottom so you can actually wear the Mobile Mummy and stay cozy warm. Think of the Sierra Designs Mobile Mummy as the sleeping bag you wear.

And finally, we have always been big fans of Sierra Designs tents and new for this season is the Sierra Designs Lightening 2 UL Tent. We reviewed the Sierra Designs Mojo 3 Tent last spring (you can read that review over here) and we found some areas where it could be improved. For this season it looks like the Lightening 2 UL and Lightening 2 use the same design but the all of our concerns have been addressed and more. The Sierra Designs Lightening 2 UL Tent looks like a solid ultralight 2 person tent for backcountry travel.
