2017 Gear Sneak Peek: Yakima DrTray Bike Rack – VIDEO

The bike rack space is a crowded one with several companies to choose from, all of which producing many unique styles of bikes racks and carriers. Yakima has always produced quality bike racks (and ski boxes for that matter) and in the past we have reviewed a few of their products such as the Yakima Flipside 4 Bike Rack and the Yakima Skybox Pro 18 Ski Box.

For the 2017 bike season Yakima has a brand new tray style bike carrier aptly named the ‘Yakima DrTray Bike Rack’. As the name suggests this is a tray style bike carrier which can accommodate up to three bikes. The big story with the Yakima DrTray Bike Rack is that the bike spacing can be adjusted  laterally in both directions after the bikes are mounted thanks to a sliding tray design. With up to 18” of space between bikes you’ll rest easy knowing your beloved ride is not going to get damaged as you bounce along a logging road on the approach to the trail head. Should you need to leave your bikes on the carrier unattended there are two telescoping cable locks which are long enough to each feed through both the front and back wheels, as well as the frame of each bike. In addition to these features there is also a conveniently located carrying handle for when you need to store your Yakima DrTray Bike Rack. This same handle allows you to tilt the carrier out of the way of your car’s hatch back so that you can access this area of your vehicle. While being both sturdy and durable the Yakima Dr. Tray Bike Rack is a full 15lbs lighter than most other comparable racks, weighing in at just 35lbs.
