Kootenay Pass & WH2O

January 20-22, 2012

Spent a few days based out of Salmo drinking espresso at the Dragonfly. Snow just kept falling. We managed to pry ourselves away from the comfort of the café to ski Friday and Sunday at Kootenay Pass and Saturday in the Evening Ridge environs.

Not much to say other than the skiing is excellent right now.

A foot of snow or more fell under quite warm temperatures over the weekend… we saw evidence of size 1-1.5 slabs in the storm snow on numerous isolated steep features in the Evening Ridge area Saturday. In the Lunchbox area of Baldy Rocks we noted an old surface down a couple feat that might wake up with more load.

More snow in the forecast and more red in the bulletin.

Nice! wish I could out from behind this desk and git some. I have heard that there is a new melt crust under this new snow that is falling - truth to this?

reread your post... second attempt

Might be what we saw down a couple feet poking around Kootenay Pass. Moderate, resistant planar results. Not at all felt in terms of ski quality, just stability.

The small slides we saw around Evening Ridge were however just in the interface under the most recent foot of storm snow. Maybe that is more related to what you're hearing. Again not an impact on ski quality.

Looks like you lucky folks are in for another big storm. The desk will still be there when you get back… go ski!
