      Kananaskis Early Season - Highwood Pass

      The season has started out in Kananaskis. Highwood Pass area has seen enough snow for huge groups of people to get out exploring. I have only heard of good skiing on Rae Glacier so far, but there are other spots to explore in Highwood.


      Snow conditions in Rae were commented on through a ACMG Mountain Conditions report, http://informalex.org/mharc/ht.....00017.html


      I was into Rae on October 28, and it was busy and windy. The snow was getting really stiff, but I didn't see or feel any slab fracture lines. The skiing was damn good up high, and extremely boney down low. Let me know if anybody has gotten into any other areas.

      Skied the Rae on October 9th and the 22nd.  Was able to ski in from the parking lot on the 22nd.  Fairly good early season skiing on both days all things considered.

      Definitly enough snow that those heading into the backcountry need to keep an eye on stability now.  Early season can bite ya.

      That said the skiing is out there… get at it.



      Oh, if anyone lost 1 OR glove on the glacier on the 22nd and were skiing with 3 as a party of 3 with a dog… I found you glove.

      Rae glacier was skiing great on the 22nd :-)

      BrendenR: haha I think thats my glove we were skiing with our dog then. It's and underglove with a very grippy palm to it.
