Gulmarg/J&K India ski tour February 2016 looking for partners..

I am considering a trip to Gulmarg for February 2016 and have been to a few websites about the area. http://www.skigulmarg.com , http://www.gulmarggondola.com/index.php & http://www.skihimalaya.com have been good sources..

My plan is to fly from N America (Canada) to Delhi then take a local flight to Srinagar & eventually make my way to the Village. I realize that snow conditions and weather can be quite extreme (..both with no snow in the Village or too much).

Does anyone have any advice about traveling there, the region or the on hill culture? I have been to the inner Himalaya (..more East towards Auli, Himchal Pradesch and Nanda Devi) I am rehearsed with bouncing around narrow mountain roads/goat tracks on local ‘buses’, limited accommodation & other umm ‘intricacies’ of Indian travel Confused

I’m also looking for travel partners considering safety on mountain and touring out of the region from the unload of the Gondola at Gulmarg..Laugh Please PM or email me for details..

Hi "Dromo_Mania", we here at Backcountry Skiing Canada are planning on skiing in Gulmarg this winter at some point in 2016 with a company called 'The Adventure Project'. While we are still working out the details of the trip it promises to be a great one. I'll get Matt from The Adventure Project to chime in and answer your questions for you as he will be far more knowledgable on the specifics than I would be. Lets stay in touch and I'll be sure to pass along details once we have them firmed up.

If you know of anyone else interested in travelling their to ski and tour please let them know!

        Admin.

        Hey Dromo,

Stoked that you are interested in coming to Gulmarg, it's an amazing place. I'm the owner of The Adventure Project and will be helping Backcountry Skiing Canada to put together their trip. We've been running trips to Gulmarg for the last 5 years and have an in-depth program.

If you want to be a part of the group, then we'd love to have you on board with us. If not, no worries, I'm still happy to answer any questions you might have. You can either email me at matt@theadventureproject.net, send me a PM here or post to this board. I'm sure there are others lurking that would appreciate any tidbits.

        Regards,

        Matt

Hi Dromo, I wanted to be sure that you saw the post about our Backcountry Skiing Canada trip to Gulmarg this winter: http://backcountryskiingcanada.....-himalayas

It would be great if you could come along with us. Let me know if you have any question?

Hi Drumo. How's the trip planning coming along? I'm a splitboarder and am planning to be in Gulmarg in February. I am looking for riding and touring partners aswell as I'm probably heading there by myself. Would be great to meet up if your going. Sounds like an incredible place. Cheers

        Apeth5...

I'm in a holding pattern for buying a ticket due to a work situation. I am still planning tentatively for February..

Where are you in the country? I am in Lake Louise..

Hey Dromo, some more info on the new gondola: The new cabins are being added to Phase 2 of the Gulmarg gondola today. This is a big upgrade for the mountain! These cabins replace the old 1980's fiberglass bubbles that were notoriously cramped and a real struggle to fit more than 4 people (you still get to ride those on Phase 1 though….). Phase 2 is nearly a 15 minute ride, so the added room from these new, legitimate 6 person cabins will be a much needed upgrade. We are looking forward to using them this season!

Hey guys, anyone still headed up to Gulmarg?

I arrive in Sinigar Feb17 and leave Feb24 and looking for some partners. I'm a novice snowboarder so I'll be sticking to the easier stuff but it would be good to split costs for rooms/transport if anyone is interested. I'm from Saskatchewan and spending a month in India.

Brandon... I leave one week today.

I have received lots of good advice about the region & more inparticular, the area of Gulmarg. Things like exchanging money, taxi's and hotels. From my impression, the area is transforming quickley where the locals appreciate the tourism.

I will likely be leaving by the 17th... but I don't think you'll be a 'novice' snowboarder once you leave. Don't underestimate the area, you'll need Avie gear and should have little problem joing some international visitors to board around with.
