Winter Found: Mount Carlyle Lodge
After a less than stellar winter the Backcountry Skiing Canada crew found winter this week at Mount Carlyle Lodge where we received 65cm of snow over the week. Temps started out on the warmer side of things but the better part of the week saw average highs of -5°C with 10cm’s of light fluffy pow over each of the last two nights.
Stability has been rock solid which allowed us to ski lines such as Three Musketeers, Sky Dive and Carolina Coolers. We summited Prospector Peak, Misty Mountain and completed the circumnavigation of Carlyle Peak which is a must do for anyone who visits Carlyle Lodge. This 5-8 hour tour takes you over Boulder Pass, through The Notch, over 12-Mile Pass, Prospector Col and finally back to the lodge vie Carpenter Pass. You get to ski a 1500’ foot heli-hero line called Kodak which is pictured below.

There is still plenty of evidence of the warming from early in the week.
Lots of good powder still to be found on North Aspects with routes such as Three Musketeers.
Today was our last day at Mount Carlyle Lodge and we’re sad to say goodbye but we know for sure we’ll be back. He would be happy to keep the lodge open for another week if you interested in skiing the week of April 12-19th.
