Vancouver, BC—September 4, 2012— The North Face, the world’s premier supplier of authentic, innovative and technically advanced outdoor apparel, equipment and footwear, today announced that INGRID BACKSTROM will come to VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, as part of the 2012 Never Stop Exploring Speaker Series. The live nationwide tour invites adventure fans from across the country to share in the incredible tales of eight top athletes from The North Face Team.
Ingrid Backstrom will recount her incredible story of skiing in the world’s most extreme conditions to Vancouver residents on September 24. In THE STORM CHASER, presented by The North Face and The North Face Store Downtown, The North Face Store Kitsilano, and ECO Outdoor Sports, Backstrom will offer an inspirational look at the depths of human endurance and share her amazing journeys.
Ingrid Backstrom's ski career has spanned the globe and all facets of big mountain freeskiing. A consistent podium finisher in freeskiing contests, she has appeared in 13 ski films. Since she started skiing in the Cascade Range of her native Washington, her thirst for the perfect run has led to descents from America’s highest peak, 20,000-foot Denali, to extreme downhills in remote ranges in China and Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic. Her breathtaking runs in the acclaimed film Steep led to appearances on The Today Show and Conan. America’s pre-eminent ski publication, Powder Magazine, has honored Ingrid with five Female Performance of the Year awards.
Hearing Backstrom’s inspirational story first hand will motivate attendees to strive for their personal bests. The presentation will take place at the Orpheum Annex at 823 Seymour Street beginning at 7 p.m. and will be preceded by a 5:30 p.m. VIP reception in benefit of Summits of Hope. Summits of Hope promotes care, advocacy, research, and education at BC Children's Hospital.
The North Face Never Stop Exploring Speaker Series is a free event; however, general admission tickets must be secured online in advance at http://www.thenorthface.com/sp.....akerseries and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Guaranteed seating tickets for the event may be purchased for $8.00. VIP reception tickets, which include preferred seating, a meet and greet with INGRID BACKSTROM and beer, wine, and light food, are available for $20.00. Following the presentation, there will be a question-and-answer session.
The North Face Never Stop Exploring Speaker Series, presented by GORE-Tex and sponsored by Primaloft and Outside, is taking place Sept. 4 through Nov. 15.
