JP Auclair and Andreas Fransson Killed in Avalanche in South America
Very sad news confirmed today by the National Office of Emergency of the Interior Ministry of Chile that both JP Auclair and Andreas Fransson were killed in an avalanche in Chile. Missing since Monday afternoon after being swept 2,300-feet down the mountain by an avalanche. The pair were climbing a 12,159-foot mountain called Monte San Lorenzo (2nd highest peak in Patagonia) in the remote Chilean Patagonia with photographers Bjarne Salen and Daniel Ronnbak, both also from Sweden.
JP Auclair is a well known Canadian freeskier and part of the Canadian Air Force as it was called. He is also co-founder of Armada skis and co-inventor of the twin tip ski. He is known best for his recent street-skiing segment in Sherpa Cinemas movie called “All.I.Can.”
Andreas Fransson, is a famous ski mountaineer who hails from Sweden and is known for his extreme skiing exploits. He’s the only person to have skied Denali’s South Face back in 2011.
Jean-Philippe Auclair was a Canadian skiing legend and will be sorely missed as will Andreas Fransson. Our condolences to their friends and families.
