Coquihala Lakes Ridge
Conditions up at the Coquihala Summit Rec Area are about as good as they can possibly get. On 23-Dec there was approx. 30cm of powder snow on top of a supportive base. Glade skiing on the Coq. Lakes Ridge around 1250m was phenomenal (for lack of another suitable term, lol). Boot packing revealed a base that is over 150cm deep in the forested areas.
With the impending 'El Ninio' who knows how long these conditions will last....

I have the map by Baldwin that has ski routes marked but there are only two runs shown on the ridge. In all honesty the terrain is complex with steep rock bands and cliffs running accross the ridge in many places. This makes ascending and descending challenging.
However, once you have explored the area there are dozens of gladed runs on ridge facing the Coquihala Lakes and more on the other side that faces West. The key is that you have to get out there and walk around and find the pockets. I've done alot of back-tracking and terrain exploration so my advice is to go and 'earn your turns' by looking at maps and then exploring the area. If you're looking for 1000's of vertical feet of uninterupted powder turns it probably isn't the place for you, but if you're patient and like walking in the woods the area is pretty sweet.
