      Study Before The Snow Flies

Did you feel it? There's a chill in the air. Mornings are crisp, the leaves feature hints of yellow and our thoughts migrate to dreams of powder. It's fall.  The stoke meter is climbing daily but the hills remain devoid of freshies. It's a great time of year put on our avalanche hat and get reviewing the fundamentals. You won't much feel like reading about snow when there's pow to slay

My favourite method is going through Avalanche Canada's online tutorial. It's full of great information, photos and videos. They do a great job of trimming the fat and delivering only the important information. While this is a great review for seasoned veterans it's also great for those just starting out.  If it's your first year venturing into the backcountry this tutorial won't replace an AST but it's a great jumping-off point before diving into a course. Having some knowledge will only help you progress in your avalanche education. There's always more to learn.
