Injured Skier Rescued from Backcountry near Whitewater Ski Resort
The Nelson Daily reports of a successful Search & Rescue (SAR) call out from the backcountry around Whitewater Ski Resort yesterday, on Jan 23rd, 2022. The call came from Emma Peak in the afternoon.![](/web/default/files/users/4588/Screen%20Shot%202022-01-24%20at%2007.58.17.png)
The SAR team commented on the quick actions made by the parties involved in activating their satellite communciators - and carrying one in the first place.
Once the subjects were located, Nelson SAR team responded with a helicopter and performed a class-D rescue (human cargo) by long-line.

The quick decisiveness and ability to communicate with SAR allowed the team to gather the proper materials and finish the rescue in daylight. Search & Rescue efforts are complex and take longer to organize and deploy that many users realize. Early activation prevents the need for nighttime operations, or a potential bivy for the evening by the injured parties.
