Quick Wins for a Cold Day
As I bit into my hummus wrap earlier this week, my hunger turned to sadness as I realized every ingredient had frozen. My fingers and toes weren’t far off either. Luckily the suffering wasn’t too drawn out. The recent cold temps and winds convinced me to take a day for some slackcountry off Kicking Horse Resort in Golden, BC.
I finished my wrap knowing that a warm lodge (and hot chocolate with Baileys) were not far off, but I had fresh turns to take before that.
As a weekend warrior, I try to reserve those precious days off for big tours in Rogers Pass, however the temps were just not inviting enough. But finding fresh lines in Rudi’s bowl was enough to get the blood going and keep my lungs and legs ready for that next big day in the Pass. There was zero new snowfall, and we found some wind affected sections, but we were able to find some great solid snow. A great reminder that the local resorts can offer a great quick win for those extra cold days. The views weren’t half bad either.
