Hey All - Also looking for Ottawa area ski buddies.  Moved to Ottawa from the West Coast where ski toured the Whistler, Squamish, Pemberton, Baker areas thoroughly.

I'm proposing to organize an meetup for Ottawa Area Backcountry Skiiers to share info.

      Hey,

I'm living in the Ottawa area this year and am looking for ski buddies to do some touring with. I'd like to go on the hunt for some sweet spots int he area

I'm brainstorming ways to get a powder fix in the Ottawa area and thought I'd run an idea by you guys.

Let's say on a night that's supposed to get a decent amount of snowfall, you skin up one of the local ski hills (after hours), and ride down before the snow gets groomed. Could this work? Has anyone tried something similar?
I suppose a couple things would be required in order for the plan to work out:
      - enough snowfall to make it worthwhile, say 20cm, which happens at least a few times a season in the Ottawa area
      - the ski hill allows you to do this
      - groomers aren't out all night
      - you're willing to stay up late
Anyone see any problems with this plan?

Or what about permanently closed ski resorts, such as Gray Rocks by tremblent? You could skin/bootpack up that during the day. That way you don't need to go at night before the powder gets groomed away.

      Yah...

I think you would proabably run in to three main problems:

      1. I don't think the local ski hills would look favourably upon this.

      2. Related to 1., is the fact that they're going to be doing grooming and snow making at night and probably don't want to run over anybody.

      3. It'll be dark.

I could be wrong though. It's happened before...

I see tons of tracks on Gray Rocks each season. They have some no trespassing signs up but I don't know how heavily they enforce it.

Any backcountry skiers/splitboarders in Ottawa area interested in getting together for the upcoming season?

Did few tours to BC and out of the country in the past. Would love to link up with local skiers and boarders to explore nearby slack/backcountry locations and remote places, such as the Chic-Choc Mountains.

Please feel free to follow up.

      Cheers...Ben

Started scoping out possible backcountry venues in and around the Gatineau hills. Couple locations look promising. Will see how the snow depth and coverage turn out when winter comes.

If anyone likes to compare notes and explore together, please feel free to get in touch.
