    • BlackStrap Merino Hood Balaclava and Merino Tube Neck Gaiter

BlackStrap Merino Hood Balaclava and Merino Tube Neck Gaiter

For backcountry enthusiasts, headwear is more than just a fashion statement; it is a critical piece of temperature regulation and weather protection. Whether you are skinning up a steep face in the Selkirks or transition-bound in a howling wind, the BlackStrap Merino Hood Balaclava and Merino Tube Neck Gaiter offer a sophisticated blend of natural performance and technical engineering.

The standout feature of both products is the use of Nuyarn merino wool. Unlike traditional merino, which is twisted into a rope-like structure, Nuyarn technology drafts the wool around a performance core. This results in a fabric that is significantly stronger, stretches better, and dries faster than standard wool. For those involved in high-output activities like ski touring or snowshoeing, this means your breath won't turn your face mask into a frozen plate of ice halfway through the day.

    BlackStrap Merino Hood Balaclava

The Merino Hood Balaclava features BlackStrap's patented ExoHinge design. This specifically addresses one of the most frustrating issues with traditional neck tubes: the constant need for readjustment. With a standard gaiter, pulling the fabric off your face usually causes the entire tube to slip down the neck, requiring two hands and a lot of fumbling to reset. The ExoHinge design creates a dual-layered system where the face panel moves independently. This allows you to pull the mask off your mouth and nose for better breathing or a quick drink, while the rest of the hood stays perfectly tensioned and secure. When you are ready to drop in, the panel slides back into place without disturbing your hat or helmet.

This also works great on the resort too, when often you need to pull up the balaclava while going up the lift.

    The Merino Tube Neck Gaiter

The Merino Tube Neck Gaiter is the minimalist's dream. It is long enough to be pulled up over the back of the head under a beanie or tucked deep into a jacket collar. Because of the merino content, it naturally resists odors, making it an excellent choice for multi-day hut trips where washing gear isn't an option. The material is remarkably durable for such a fine knit, resisting the pilling often seen with lower-quality wool blends.
