    • Arc'teryx Procline Hybrid Hoody and Procline FL Pants

Arc'teryx Procline Hybrid Hoody and Procline FL Pants

We are very familiar with the Arc’teryx ski touring line of apparel and are often amazed by the company’s ability to  introduce new items that we can’t imagine doing without. The Arc’teryx Procline FL Pants and The Arc’teryx Procline Hybrid Hoody fit the pattern.

If you’d like to see a sampling of other Arc’teryx products we’ve looked at over the years, here are a few: Arc'teryx Sphene jacket, the Fission SL jacket the Atom LT jacket and we’ve also tested gloves, including the Cadens. All of them seem to have that Arc’teryx special sauce: good design, top-notch materials and just the features you need—nothing more.

    Arc'teryx Procline Jacket and Pants
Here's a little video we shot up at Mount Carlyle Lodge a while back. This jacket and pant combo is perfect for a week ski touring in the Kootenays. To see still pics and read more of our impressions, click the arrow on the right of the  orange bar below.
SHOW THE REST OF THE REVIEW / PHOTOS / VIDEOS
The Procline series is focussed on ski alpinism, which is a combo of skiing and mountain climbing. The kit is relatively close fitting and has features that allow for harnesses, packs and other ski alpinism-specific gear. I’d be lying if I said I was a ski alpinist and, to me, these pieces work super duper well if you mostly ski tour and never get harnessed up for a rapel.

Here's a top and bottom shot from a trip to Journeyman Lodge near Whistler. Same pants, different colour from those in the video—long story.

    Arc'teryx Procline Hoody

The Procline Hybrid Hoody is a mid-layer or warm weather top. It's not suitable for colder days (and this is unlike the FL pants, which work in all but the coldest conditions). As you can see from the pics, the jacket is pretty tight fitting so it fits well under another jacket, like, say, the Arc'teryx Sphene Jacket we've also reviewed.

Here's why they call it the Procline Hybrid Hoody—part fleece, part softshell. Some call it zonal construction.

One of two cozy pockets. Nothing more is needed.

As I mention in the video, I love the hood. Perfect fit and slightly wind permeable.
    Arc'teryx Procline Jacket and Pants
Flashing the Procline Hybrid Hoody. Nice and stretchy. Best on the uptrack of for warm days—or as a mid-layer.

    Arc'teryx Procline FL Pants

These pants are perfect for all but the windiest, coldest of days. If you like the move-with-you feel of softshell pants, the Procline FLs are worth a look.

Close fitting and very comfortable, the FLs wear more like a pair of normal pants than a pair of ski pants. Check out the gaiter and expandable cuff at right, below. Smart design.

Here is the thigh pocket at left, below. We'd love to see a transciever fasterner of some kind in there. Side vents at right.

    Verdict:

What's one way to determine which  items in your kit are your favourites? The answer comes at packing time before a trip. The Procline Hybrid Hoody and Procline FL pants enjoy top billing in my hut trip ski duffel. They are comfortable, high-performance, stylish--and at the same time simple. We have reviewed many Arc'teryx items on the site and the only factor that is not near-perfect on some models is fit (and that's subjective). The fit of these two items is excellent.

    PROS:

    • Love the jacket hood.
    • Pants come in three different lengths within each size.
    • Both items are remarkably comfortable.

    CONS:

    • Price tag may overwhelm some.
    • A transceiver fastener in the pants would be good.
