      • Yeti Rambler One Gallon Jug

      Yeti Rambler One Gallon Jug

Yeti’s Rambler drinkware series is a family of beverage containers that are designed for toughness and provide the best insulation available. They come in all shapes and sizes, from a 10oz Lowball, to the 1 gallon jug that we will review here. The folks at Yeti are out to keep things cool (or hot), no matter your vessel or beverage of choice.

      Yeti Rambler One Gallon Jug

The Yeti Rambler One Gallon Jug has a Jug Mount (sold separately) which you can affix to your boat, trailer, car and more.

The Rambler One Gallon Jug is designed to be “damn-near indestructible”  while keeping your liquids hot or cold for as long as possible. The jug is made from kitchen-grade 18/8 stainless steel and features double-wall vacuum insulation. 18/8 refers to the chromium and nickel content at 18% and 8% respectively. This type of stainless steel is not magnetic and offers increased resistance to corrosion compared to many other types of steel.

Double-wall vacuum insulation significantly reduces the amount of heat transfer via conduction and convection, keeping liquids at their desired temperatures for longer.

The outside of the jug features Yeti’s No Sweat technology that prevents condensation from occurring. This keeps your hands dry and reduces the chance of dropping a slippery jug.

Another key feature of the Rambler One Gallon Jug is the stainless steel handle with a grip that offers easy carrying for this large vessel.

The extra-wide lid with 1-inch Fatlid insulating technology offers easy cleaning of the inside of the vessel, as well as easier means to fill it up. Located on top of the lip is the MagCap, a threaded, leakproof cap featuring an embedded magnet that mates to a magnetic dock on the cap. This is a great feature to keep your cap close by so it doesn’t get lost or dropped in the dirt.

This bombproof jug has one more surprise up its sleeve, but this one is sold separately. Yeti offers a Rambler Jug Mount so your jug can be secured to your truck, boat, trailer, tractor, or whatever else you feel like mounting it to.

This rugged polypropylene mount comes with all the hardware for mounting, and offers options to mount it via the base, or the side. The addition of a lock port allows you to lock your jug to the mount so that those who are jug-less don’t turn the tables.

      Features:

      • Magnetic dock for cap
      • Double wall vacuum insulation
      • No Sweat design
      • Rugged jug mount with lock port

      Verdict:

The Yeti Rambler is one rugged jug. While testing this jug, it took a couple of bails out of the car onto concrete and saw minor scratching. Built with sturdy materials, this thing is designed to outlive us all, and it will keep your beverages cold (or hot) while it’s at it. Like a lot of Yeti gear, the Rambler is purposefully over-engineered to maximize performance in all functions.

Perhaps the only thing the Rambler isn’t good at is keeping a low profile. This jug is heavy and bulky but this is to be expected with its gallon capacity. I thought it was a bit expensive too, but after checking out the other stainless steel gallon jugs on the market, the price is actually pretty competitive. That being said, plastic jugs are a fraction of the price but they lack the durability and quality insulation of their steel counterparts. To give an idea of the quality of insulation, the Rambler held ice in water for over 3 days. Results in ice retention will vary of course, for this longevity I kept the jug in a cool, sheltered area.

My two favourite features of the jug are the magnetic cap dock and the-extra wide lid.

The large lid makes filling and cleaning the jug effortless. There are no awkward angles to scrub around, and you don't have to worry about getting your hand stuck in there. The opening is large enough that we actually used the jug as a cooler on one hot evening. That’s right, it was big enough for us to fill it with ice and put two beer cans inside without any struggle. Well played Rambler, well played...

The magnetic dock beats having some flimsy plastic loop to attach the cap to the lid. This is one less thing that can break and makes cleaning easier too. The convenience of having the cap stick to the lid is a luxury I didn’t know I was missing out on.

If you want a quality insulated one-gallon jug that can be passed on through the generations, look no further, the Yeti Rambler One Gallon Jug is it.

If you are looking for a cooler to keep your food and beverages cold then read our review of the Yeti Hopper Flip 18 which won our Gear of the Year Award, the Yeti Tundra 50 Cooler or the Yeti Hopper Two 30 Cooler.

      PROS:

      • The extra-wide lid makes filling and cleaning extra easy.
      • The magnetic dock is a convenient keeping track of the lid.
      • Top-notch insulation.

      CONS:

      • A little on the expensive side.
      • Heavy.
