North Shore Avalanche Conditions Friday March 8, 2024

  • 2024-03-10 15:18:25

Backcountry Skiing Canada is pleased to continue our partnership with North Shore SAR and Andre-Jean to update you on the North Shore mountain snowpack conditions.

More snow and great skiing is what the past week gave us on the North Shore. AJ gives us a great look into the current snowpack on the North Shore.  Due to a bunch of SAR callouts on the North Shore last week, AJ gives us some great advice to think about when we venture into the backcountry.  He asks us to consider two questions when standing at the top of our backcountry run.
    1. Where will I end up at the bottom of this run (topo maps are great for this information to show cliffs, steep drops, etc)
    2. How far will I be from my vehicle and how will I get back to my vehicle?
Great information to help you stay safe out there in the backcountry.

Again, check out Avalanche Canada for a full Avalanche Danger scale rating for your region.

If you want a detailed snowpack update on our West Kootenay area check out our own Backcountry Skiing Canada update on Feb 29 with WH2O forecaster Jay Wishie.  We have had some wild conditions in the Kootenays lately, with VERY large slides running on our Feb 1 crust.  Let's all do our part to stay informed and safe out there in the next few weeks.
