PHOTO COMP - Qua Peak

I meant to post this earlier but like everything else it got pushed down the line. I had two days left of official holiday vacation and I wanted to get out on a nice long tour. With sunny skies, moderate avi conditions, and with a high of -7C predicted for January 2, 2011 I thought it would be a great time to get out and tackle Qua peak. We managed to wrangle five people in total.

From Whitewater, we set off east along blasters ridge. After about twenty-five minutes we stopped just opposite prospectors bowl to rip off the skins and ski our first descent to Qua creek. It was about a 1700ft descent through a nicely gladed tree run on a south facing side.

To avoid a steeper ascent into the Qua peak basin we travelled further east towards north Qua to a slide path which allowed us to ascend to 1900m before veering south to enter Qua basin. Managed to summit Qua and skied a back down to Qua creek before climbing back to west Ymir. Great day and couldn't ask for better light for picture taking.

This one has been on my to-do list for a few years, looks like you hit it on the money. Do you have any info on the number of hours it took you and the total vert? Gotta get to this one this year - thanks for the info.

Took us just over eight hours if I remember correctly. ~2700m total vert. Awesome tour for around WH2O.

I got lucky with the point and shoot camera. Thanks!

Awesome. We have been talking about this tour as well. The 8 hours round trip i would imagaine lift access starting at 0900? How was the climb out of qua creek back to west ymir?

There is a bit of confusion as to which peak is Qua, google says its the two peaks along the ridge from ymir-->villi-->n qua-->qua.

Then the ymir yurt / snowcat opp calls these peaks kutule and seeman peaks, with he qua peaks being the next drainage s surrounding what they call qua lake....?

We do this tour from Yurtopia Yurt as a circumnavigation of what we call Kututle peak- the left peak of what whitewater folks call Qua Peaks. In a five hour tour you can hit 3 classy descents. We can do the tour from Qua Yurt as well getting to the top of what we call Seeman Peak - the right hand peak of what whitewater folks call Qua Peaks. We can do what I call the tour of bowls hitting five bowls each with 1000+ ft descents from the summit.

In regards to peak names. On the government maps there has never been names for the peaks. I noticed that recently google has been naming them lately on their maps. I'm not sure if its based on anything official. We named them based on the drainages - Kututle Peak - at the headwaters of Kututle creek. Seeman Peak - headwater of Seeman Ck on the east side. Qua Peak is above Qua Lake and Wildhorse Peak at the headwaters of Wildhorse Creek.
