Welcome to Episode 8 of the 2025/2026 Avalanche Conditions Report, brought to you by Whitewater Mountain Resort, Backcountry Skiing Canada, & State of the Snowpack. It's the final Avalanche Conditions Report of the season!Avalanche Canada Danger Rating:
Alpine: Considerable
Treeline: Considerable
Below Treeline: Considerable
Snowpack:
We are currently in the midst of an atmospheric river event bringing a mild, wet stream of moisture from the South Pacific.
Freezing levels are sitting around 2500m, so this is expected to drive a loose wet avalanche cycle across all aspects and elevations.
Rain is destabilizing the snowpack and adding significant weight to lower layers which may become reactive as this pattern continues.
Forecast:
Continued high freezing levels and periods of rain are expected through Friday evening, with the most significant pulse arriving Friday.
Hazard is expected to rise to High during this period.
Longer range outlook shows cooling with the potential return of snow by mid to late next week.
Stay safe, continue to check Avalanche Canada for the forecast before heading into the backcountry throughout the spring, and we can't wait to see you back here for some more backcountry updates next season!
