Meindl's Latest: Comfort Fit Montafon Light Hiker

Having previously tested Meindl’s Literock Free Trail Shoes this past spring and being thoroughly impressed, it seemed only fitting to put Meindl’s new Comfort Fit Montafon through our testing regime to see if they stack up to Meindl’s legendary reputation for footwear.

As you may have read in the Meindl Literock Free Trail Shoe review, Meindl has been crafting footwear for over three centuries, since its inception in 1683 by Petrus Meindl in Kirchanschöring, Germany. Nestled in the heart of the Bavarian Alps, Meindl boasts a long tradition of quality, unparalleled comfort, and innovation.

Meindl Comfort Fit Montafon Light Hiker

The Comfort Fit Montafon Light Hikers are said to provide “versatile comfort for every step” and are designed specifically for extended hikes and everyday wear thanks to their lightweight and rugged durability. They feature Meindl’s Comfort Fit Technology, which uses an anatomically designed last that creates more room in the toe box so your toes have space to spread out, along with additional width around the ball of your foot. The Comfort Fit last hugs the heel of your foot to prevent slipping and the formation of blisters. In addition to all-day comfort, this Comfort Fit last creates a wider, more stable platform for walking and hiking over uneven terrain. To further increase comfort, every pair of Comfort Fit Montafon Light Hikers comes with form-fitting cork footbeds with fleece tops and Poron inserts, which, in addition to the boot’s EVA midsoles, provide ample shock absorption. The Montafon Light Hiker’s Variofix lacing system offers a customizable fit, securing your forefoot and locking your heels into the boot’s heel pocket.

The boot’s suede and mesh uppers cover the 100% waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex liners, which keep rain and dew out while allowing perspiration to vent, helping to keep your feet cool and dry. A wraparound protective rand provides additional durability in rocky terrain and trail wear in general. On the underside of the Comfort Fit Montafon Light Hiker, you’ll find a Vibram Multigrip 3 Alpine Light outsole for traction on boulders, scree, dirt and wet surfaces.

As much as the Literock Free Trail Shoes impressed us, so too do the Comfort Fit Montafon Light Hikers. Meindl’s reputation for creating comfortable, high-performance footwear that stands up to the abuse of rugged terrain is well deserved and can only be truly appreciated by slipping on a pair and taking them for a walk.
