      • Body Glove Performer 2022 11’ SUP

      Body Glove Performer 2022 iSUP

The Performer has been in Body Glove’s lineup of inflatable SUPs for over six years now and each iteration improves over the last. Not only does Body Glove refine the Performer’s feature set and include more innovative options with each new SUP, but they also keep improving the graphical treatment of each new board. The latest 2022 Performer is by far the best looking and also the most user-friendly of any of the Performers released to date. The original Performer SUP came out in 2016 and was revised in 2020 with new graphics, a reduced thickness from 6” to 5.4” and redesigned fins and triple-layered side rails and upgraded carbon-reinforced stringers being added. In 2021, Body Glove again updated the Performer and this time added a tow hook, an action camera mount built right into the front of the board, adjustable cargo bungees, cooler lash points, oval shaft paddle design, and an all-new sleek silver ClearTech Inflatable Material with two-tone drop-stitch construction and new graphic design complete with a mountain motif. Let's jump into the 2022 Performer 11’ SUP review and see what new goodies Body Glove has included this time around.

The first thing you notice about the new Body Glove Performer 2022 11’ SUP is the redesigned deck graphics. They are more simplified overall and have a faux wood theme that looks great and matches the paddle.

“The explosive growth of this segment shows us that consumers are eager to discover new ways to spend time outdoors – but cost and convenience can be a hurdle. That’s why we set out to create the ultimate SUP experience, coupled with the affordability and approachable design to fit the lifestyle of adventure-seekers and families alike.” Body Glove Vice President of Global Marketing Nick Meistrell

Featuring a versatile all-around sleek touring design, the Performer SUP is ideal for paddlers of all skill levels, on flat and moving water and is ideal for family recreation, fitness and travel. The Performer remains the Body Glove’s most popular board and the top-selling iSUP in North America so you know they have done things right.

      Body Glove Performer 2022 SUP

Body Glove brings us a redefined and improved Performer 11’ SUP for 2022 with an improved overall shape. By increasing the average width of the board over its length it now has more of the SUP in contact with the water at all times which makes it more stable—a plus for beginners. To help make the Performer a little more efficient and faster on flat water, Body Glove has added a subtle amount of rocker to the tail which allows water to release from the board more easily thus increasing the overall speed of the board.

For the 2022 version, Body Glove has used a wood grain ClearTek drop-stitch construction and maintained the triple-layer stringers and side rails to help maximize rigidity to deliver a rigid yet smooth paddle experience. On the new deck pad which provides better grip and durability you will also see laser engraved foot placement guides to help you mark your optimal stance location.

Body Glove has also joined forces with ‘One Tree Planted’ which means that for every Performer SUP purchased a tree will be planted to help the planet with climate change. As well, Body Glove also continues its reduced use of single-use plastic packaging and every Performer SUP is packed with craft paper that can be recycled or reused much more easily.

All of the other features introduced over the previous versions of the Performer SUP still remain like the three fixed Dura fins, three-piece oval ergonomic paddle, multifunctional carry handle, and front cargo bungee with stability harness, action camera mount and cooler D-ring attachment points.

      • For the first time, we are including an electric pump in addition to the hand pump with the package.
      • The board remains 34” at its widest point, but the average width has been increased, making for a more stable board.
      • 1.5” tail rocker has been added, making for a faster board.
      • Foot placement guides have been added to the deck pad.
      • Starting in 2022, we partnered with One Tree Planted to plant one tree for every paddleboard sold – this is across our entire line. It’s also in addition to single-use plastic-free packaging.

      Verdict:

With each revised version of the Performer SUP, the board just gets better, but I am not sure how Body Glove is able to continually add in new features and yet maintain the same reasonable price. This new 2022 version has a totally different deck design which I prefer over the previous mountain motif and the etched foot placement markers are a nice way to help beginners position themselves in the proper location for paddling. Cosmetics aside, the 2022 Performer’s new refined shape really does help increase overall speed and stability, again nice upgrades for beginners—and intermediates alike. Given the amount of nose rocker on the Performer, it has always been a really efficient board to paddle and also versatile enough to take down some rivers with moving water. I think the big news has to be the inclusion of a regular hand pump but also now an electric pump to help inflate the Performer faster with less effort. While I applaud this upgrade I was sad to see that no cord was provided to plug the pump into a standard wall socket, just the car adapter. While this makes sense as most people will be inflating their board once they arrive at the put-in location, some of us like to inflate the board prior to leaving home and now this entails taking it down the car and inflating it there. It would be ideal to provide both options for all kinds of pre-paddling habits. I also applaud Bogy Glove's environmental initiatives with ‘One Tree Planted’ and their elimination of any single-use packing plastics we do have to realize that inflatable SUPs are one of the worst products for the planet given their use of petroleum products and toxic adhesives. Body Glove is on the right track and I appreciate that, let's see what the future holds for the next Performer SUP and hopefully more environmentally sensitive materials to be used in its production. After all, if the ski boot industry can do it then I am sure that SUP brands can find a way.  My environmental opinions aside, the latest Performer is undeniably Body Glove's best SUP yet and an ideal board for those looking to get into paddling both flat water lakes and perhaps more technical moving water on rivers. It tracks and surfs well and is priced right for those on a budget. This is the best all-around SUP for the money and it includes everything you need to get out on the water this summer so what are you waiting for?

      PROS:

      • Electric pump is super handy.
      • Tracks well.
      • Ideal for new paddlers.
      • Large weight capacity.
      • Versatile dimensions and design for both flat and moving water.

      CONS:

      • The paddle is heavy.
      • Could use a few more D-rings for securing gear.
      • Phone case feels cheap.
