G3 Scapegoat Carbon Splitboard and G3 Alpinist Climbing Skins

This board is constructed of one hundred percent bi & triaxial stitched carbon fibre over a Poplar/Paulownia wood core, meaning it is strong and durable with a high torsional rigidity, making it great in all conditions. It has a Sintered P-Tex 2000 Electra base and premium ABS/TPU sidewalls and long-lasting alloy steel, edges which are corrosion resistant. Most importantly it is extremely lightweight, weighing in at only 2630 grams, the G3 Scapegoat will keep your legs fresh when touring in and out of bounds and up and down any type of terrain.

Voile clips on the tip and tail assist the G3 clamps in keeping the board together.

Available in three sizes (158, 162, 166cm) this directional rocketed split board is a powder slayer. The large nose floats, and the tapered tail sinks, giving it a surfier feel that will keep you afloat in the deepest snow. It has a stiff, long lasting flex and is ultra responsive. The top sheet is stealth black with a blue mountain goat head at the rear which makes for a subtle top sheet design. The scapegoat is so much fun that it may be unfairly blamed for ripping up all the fresh snow in the backcountry.

The carbon fibre construction makes this one of the lightest splitboards on the market and is complimented with a stealth top sheet with a low profile, non-flashy graphic, but that won’t stop it from turning heads.

The G3 Alpinist Splitboard Climbing Skins are just as trustworthy as any other product made by this reputable company. A number of ski industry professionals I know use G3 skins for many different skis and have no complaints. The laminated tail strap is asymmetrical, low profile and not offered by any other manufacturer. The tip and tail has a fixed clip for the inside edge and an articulating clip on the outside to allow for easy application of the skin in the toughest weather conditions. The skin glue is the what I’d consider to be the toughest on the market rated for weather as cold as -30 degrees Celsius. The skins are lightweight and glide with ease in most snow conditions. The Alpinist Splitboard Climbing Skins are also offset specifically for G3 split boards in order to maintain a true fit to the bottom of your board. The Alpinist skins come with a cutter (only needed to be used once on the outside edge), skin savers and a skin bag for storing. There is up to 16cm of length adjustment on the Alpinist’s to keep your skins fitting tight use after use and enabling you to have one pair of skins for multiple boards.

The tip has two clips for attaching at the nose. One on the left is fixed while the one on the right articulates to allow an easy attachment to the splitboard.

The tail also has a fixed and articulating clip and 16cm of adjustment as well.

The G3 Carbon Scapegoat 166 is a little long for my particular height and weight, but this was hardly noticed when charging steep powder lines in open alpine terrain. The board surfs very well, floats like a dream and makes responsive turns as I transfer power from my heel to toe. I was however hesitant in the trees because a longer board has a larger turning radius and thus the 158 may be better at this task. Touring up was amazing! With a longer ski on each foot I was able to stay afloat easily while breaking trail and the carbon fibre construction was very noticeable for its minimal weight. My strides were almost effortless and my stamina was endless as I searched for and carved up fresh powder all over the Whitewater backcountry. The skins were easy to fit and only needed to be cut once. I didn’t have another board to use the skins on but having one pair of skins for multiple boards has its financial advantages. The articulating clips made it easy to attach the skins and I never had a problem with slipping while climbing on the skin track. G3 is a reputable company with quality products so I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this setup for anyone looking for a splitboard ideally suited to long expedition tours and big lines in deep, fresh pow.
