Electromagnetic interference and avalanche transceivers

It seems the talk of the avalanche industry this year has been electromagnetic interference.  Avalanche Canada is talking about it. I have seen multiple articles and papers on it.  And even now the transceiver manufacturers are getting into the game with transceivers specifically designed to avoid interference.  For a link to the latest information on the new Pieps Pro IPS transceiver check out the Backcountry Skiing Canada form here.



One article I saw this year did a great job of putting it into context.  Black Diamond QC-Lab came out with a very in-depth article that helps one navigate this important safety feature.  Check it out on this link below.  But maybe even more important than reading articles is to take your transceiver out and test it with a bunch of the personal electronics you might use.  Try searching with your smartwatch on or your heated gloves.  This first-hand experience can be invaluable when you are out in the field and performing a rescue for real.
