Sneak Peek at Next Years Gear: Ternua Quantum Jacket with recycled hydrophobic down.

Ternua is the first outdoor brand to introduce 100% eco-friendly recycled water-repellant down.

Ternua is a Spanish company that has recently started selling their products in North America. They designer and manufacturer technical mountaineering, climbing and skiing apparel and outerwear and is the first outdoor brand to feature water-repellant down that is 100% eco-friendly recycled down.

“Ternua was the first brand to introduce recycled down in its fall ’15 collection, and now the technology has advanced to include hydrophobic properties,” said Bruce Barrows, VP sales & marketing in North America for Ternua. “Ternua has always had a strong sustainable philosophy, so consumers can feel good about purchasing a high performance down products that not only have the latest technology, but also makes very little impact on the environment.”

Ternua is a pioneer in using recycled down, or “Neokdun.” Manufactured by Navarpluma SL in Europe, it comes from down products that have reached the end of their own product life cycle. Through an eco-friendly process that uses no harmful chemicals, the down is collected and sanitized so that it can be recycled into new down products. Just like traditional virgin down, Neokdun down is a highly effective insulator, but quickly loses its insulation powers when wet. By incorporating the Nikwax PFC-free Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finish on each individual down filament, nature’s best insulation is made even better, keeping it dry and lofty so it can trap heat and provide warmth even in wet conditions.

Ternua will be offering recycled hydrophobic down a variety of down-insulated outerwear for 2016, including the Quantum, Ladakh 160 and the Ladakh 300.

      QUANTUM JACKET

This is the first recycled hydrophobic down jacket on the market. The 800-fill down is sourced from recycled down products that have reached the end of their original product life cycle. The down is then washed and treated to be water resistant so it stays warm even when wet. The shell is made of recycled Pertex Quantum that has a PFOA/POFS free DWR. Polartec Power Stretch Pro side panels ensure optimal freedom of movement.

      Price: $225.00 US
