G3 Onyx Alpine Touring Bindings - REVIEW

  • Online
    2011-02-18 15:55:11

G3 Onyx Alpine Touring BindingThe Onyx is a “tech” binding—meaning it works only with Dynafit compatible boots. They’re the ones with the little holes on either side of the toe and the cut-out and metal insert on the heel. Virtually every AT boot maker offers tech-compatible boots these days. I think it’s really the only way to go—I’d even go so far as to say any tech binding is better than a “standard” binding. The beauty of the tech rig is clear on the up. Unlike other bindings, tech binding design means you aren’t lifting a clunky, heavy binding heel piece with every step. It’s a fundamental difference that you’ll realize immediately when you experience it.

    Andrew,

Good job on the review, here's a few comments regarding the challenges you had with the onyx.

    1. for the 11/12 (next year) G3 has added more of a target to the tour mode switch on the  toe piece to make it easier to see and locate quickly.
    2. To see how the heel mode lever is supposed to be operated, check out the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....r_embedded
    3. For a complete product walk through check this out:http://www.g3onyx.com/
    4. There are a ton of videos on it's operation here: http://www.genuineguidegear.co.....product/54

Glad to hear you're liking the binding!!

    happy turns,

    Cam
