Hello Graeme and welcome to the forum! Good mini-review...The onyx's do look pretty sexy and most things I have read about them are thumbs up. I am a Dynafit evangelist and am really interested in the onyx's ability to change from tour to ski (and vice versa) without having to get out of the binding. I just thought of this factor a couple days ago on a tour actually. This is the only real benefit I, personally, can see because everything else works for me on the dynafits.

I can't really see why anybody other than super aggressive skiers would want to tour/ski anything "non-tech" these days.  Maybe if they spent the vast majority of their time skiing lift-serviced stuff.

Did you go from a Dynafit to an Onyx or from a Fritschi to an Onyx?

I have skied both Dynafit and Fritschi extensively.  They both have their merits and their place.

The ability to switch between ski and tour mode is slick.  I also find the heellifts easier to use on the Onyx versus the Dynafit.

The ski better than the Freerides in my opinion.  Less slop.

I hope that they hold up.

Overall, for a company's first AT binding, I think that this is a really impressive first.  Dynafit has tweaked their bindings for 20 years and yes they are great.  I'm sure that G3 will make changes and improvements, but this binding is doin' it for me… so far.
