Take a look at the video at wildsnow dot com to see what Dynafit expert, Lou Dawson,thinks of the bindings at this point. My takeway: It looks very easy to get into; I think the inability to have your boots flat on the ski in touring mode is a disadvantage; it's overkill for me and my milquetoast needs but it'll work well for lots of folks.

Pretty interesting from Dynafit. Personally I am ok with the 12 din tech binding I have now, although some improvements in terms of release might be warranted. I'd be interested to see if this binding can pass DIN testing.
Maybe after a couple of years of testing and refinement it might be a great option. A little on the pricey side.

I wouldn't discount the size of the beefed up market. Backcountry skiing is growing in popularity and many people would prob want to transition from alpine by dipping their toe into slackcountry first rather than diving into the wilds of backcountry. In other words, they'd be 20% backcountry/80% lift service. It's the segment many makers are after: marker, tyrolia, Salomon, G3 (to a certain extent). It's definitely a business decision...
