      Backcountry Access Stash ALP 40 Backpack - REVIEW

      The Backcountry Access [BCA] Stash Pack Alp 40 is a roomy 40 litre ski touring pack for those who value well thought-out design and functionality. BCA calls this their 'pro-mountaineer' pack for dedicated backcountry skiers, guides and patrollers. You can tell that this is a mature product as all of the features have been well thought out and obviously tested thoroughly in the field. The main features that make this a 'must have' pack are:
      - Detachable lid with roll top option 
      - External shovel blade pocket
      - Sleeve storage for snow safety tools [shovel handle, probe and snow saw
      - External helmet carry system
      - Freezeproof Nalgene compatible hydration system
      - Back panel Access
      - Diagonal ski carry
      - A-frame ski carry
      - Hip belt pockets

      Liking the sounds of the features it has to offer, nice to have the Nalgene attachment for the hydration system and I have read elsewhere that it truly doesn't freeze. Sounds like the pack has everything - the external helmet carrier is also top on my list of must haves. Can't say I am a fan of the gold or orange or what ever colour that is - would have to go with the black. Not a bad price for a 40 litre ski touring pack - and big enough to carry a pair of those shiny new $500 Recon GPS enable goggles too!

      I was impressed by the hydration system too. You can use one of those honking 2-litre nalgene bottles in there too. The diagonal ski carry looks a little floppy but I've found that with just about any pack I've had. An A-frame ski attachment always works better for me. Nice pack! Can I have it now please?Surprised
