      ABS Packs

      Just got one. Vario 15L cover.  With shovel/handle, probe, saw..... mounted on the outside it has more room left over inside then my BD Outlaw. All loaded up I can get all avy gear, 2 way radio, camp stove, skins, spare socks and jacket, and a few other odds and sods in it. Quite happy with it so far.  And with the Vario base unit that I got, I can always buy a 30 or 50L bag and it just zips onto the base unit. Got it from Rockey Mountain Extreme in Calgary.

      A little steep at $1200 but well worth it in the long run.

      What does the thing weigh on its own? I think there's lots of "science" that says these packs make sense ~ I'm just scared of the weight (not to mention the price-tag)

      I think it was 6 pounds. Its really not that bad. And the pack is super comfy. The guys at the store took the time to make sure I was properly fitted. Also did the air bag setup, deploy, and repack training.  All loaded up, the weight feels the same as my Outlaw did.

      I saw one of these things set off in a demo, pretty impressive - and if it is too heavy then you have a nice pool toy for the kids?Confused

      6lbs is nothing - my lunch weighs more than that. Safety has a price I guess and that ain't much.
