    • Petzl Reactik+ Headlamp

    Petzl Reactik+ Headlamp

The Petzl Reactik+ is a high-tech headlamp designed for high-speed sports like trail running, alpine climbing and ski touring. Its main feature is the ability to adapt to surrounding conditions by analyzing available light and proximity from objects and then lighting them accordingly. This means if you are reading a map, the wide beam will emit lower lumens until you look up the trail when a more focused beam and higher lumens will light the way.

There is a lot of power and features packed into the Petzl Reactik+ Headlamp.

It is also considered an intelligent headlamp due to its Bluetooth technology that allows you to connect with a smart phone or tablet. Using one of these devices you can download the My Petzel Light App and activate the Bluetooth on your headlamp. This will enable you to check information about your headlamp such as battery life, burn time and current active profile. You may have multiple profiles for your headlamp, for a variety of activities, with presets for lighting preferences.  Ultimately this will maximize battery life and use. There is even a feature that allows you to type a message that will be translated and displayed via Morse Code from your headlamp—a pretty cool feature, but will you ever use it, who knows.

    Petzl Reactik+ Headlamp

The Petzl Reactik+ has multi-beam lighting: wide, concentrated and mixed. It is also equipped with strobe capabilities and a red bulb to preserve night vision. It is lockable so you don’t accidentally turn the headlamp on while traveling or while it’s stored away. The headband is a two-part construction for optimal comfort and a provides a strong hold over your head, hat or toque. The entire unit is weather resistant so you can use it in a snowstorm or the rain if you have to.

The battery used to power the Reactik+ is an 1800mAh Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery. It may take up to four and a half hours to recharge this battery (when completely drained), charging is easy and convenient by using the USB port for on the go charging. If this doesn’t work for you, you can purchase the standard battery pack, which holds three AAA batteries.

This headlamp is capable of 300 Lumens and can be used for up to 60 hours. It only weights 115 g and is available in two colour schemes; coral & white or black & white.

    Features:

    • Reactive sensor automatically adapts brightness and beam based on proximity.
    • Bluetootjh Smart connectivity enables customization through MyPetzl app.
    • Multi-beam lighting: wide beam for close, concentrated beam for far away.
    • Red light preserves night vision.
    • Locking prevents accidentally turning it on in storage or transit.
    • Rechargeable battery with USB port.
    • Weather resistant.
    • Washable & adjustable, two part constructed headband.

While it's not the lightest headlamp out there, it is comfortable to wear and fits your head securely.

    Verdict:

The Petzl Reactik+ headlamp is definitely one to consider. It is actually quiet lightweight for its size and pumps out more lumens then the average headlamp. The two part constructed head band is comfortable and stays in place when tightened over a toque or just on my head. Not to mention the sweat absorbing material behind the lamp for when I’m active. The feature that sets this headlamp apart is the automatically adjusting beam and brightness, which is handy when reading then looking up or around, and one of my favourite features of any headlamp. It is also pretty cool that you can control your headlamp with your smart phone to adjust user settings for optimal battery life and overall use. It comes with a rechargeable battery pack that is only guaranteed for 1 year, however which is not ideal. The standard battery pack can be purchased for as little as $10 if you prefer battery power versus recharging the Lithium Ion battery pack, but not sure why you would as this will cost you more in the long run and is much harder on the environment due to the added waste. Another major pro for me is the ability to lock Petzl Reactik+ Headlamp so it won’t accidentally turn on while stowed in your pack.

You will give up a little burn time in order to get a brighter headlamp and it’s also heavier than other Petal models so it really just comes down to what your priorities are. One thing is for sure, this is by far Petzl’s most high tech headlamp and the coolest out there.

    PROS:

    • Compact.
    • Relatively ightweight.
    • Intelligent.
    • Lockable.

    CONS:

    • Battery pack sold separately.
    • Lithium Ion Battery only guaranteed for 1 year.
    • Shorter burn time.
