To share any info your have on backcountry skiing in the Rocky Mountains, or to get the lowdown from others, check out our backcountry skiing forums on the region. The Rocky Mountains straddle the BC/Alberta border and include such ski touring hotspots as Banff and Yoho parks as well as Jasper. People from west of the Rockies like to believe they don’t get much snow there. Local residents say there’s plenty. We side with the later. Classic ski touring in the Rocky Mountains like Banff’s Wapta Traverse and literally hundreds of sublime peaks make the Rockies a to do on the Canadian backcountry ski circuit. For avy info (south to north), look to CAA and Parks Canada avalanche forecasts for: Yoho and Kootenay National Parks, Jasper and the North Rockies.
We want to “beef up” the site for next season and are on the lookout for people who can provide route descriptions that aren’t featured here. If you have any questions, contact backcountryskiingcanada’s Grand Poobah. We all want your input and will help you out in any way we can.
